Get ready for a blast! My family and I are embarking on a super exciting five-day road trip across Southern Tunisia to explore Star Wars locations. May the force be with us!

Your Tunisia Tour: Friendly Do's and Don'ts
We had a fantastic trip, and we want yours to be just as smooth! Here is some friendly advice based on our experience:
✅ Our Top Do's for a Smooth Trip
Travel during the Cooler Months. We found November to be perfect! The milder temperatures make exploring the desert sites much more enjoyable.
Since you'll be venturing away from major hospitals, it's wise to plan ahead for food safety. Highly Recommended: Speak to your family doctor beforehand about preventative or reactionary medicine (like antibiotics) for food poisoning for everyone in your group.
A Friendly Tip: Many travelers also find it helpful to visit a local pharmacy before starting their journey in Tunisia to pick up an antibiotics like a Z-Pak (Zithromax). A prescription is not needed for this type of medication, but please consult with your doctor prior to your travel.
Always Drink Bottled Water and avoid ice. To be on the safe side, stick exclusively to bottled water throughout your tour.
Be Cautious with Produce. We recommend avoiding leafy greens and fresh fruit (unless you can peel it yourself) to minimize the risk of foodborne illness.
Carry Tunisian Dinar. While credit cards are accepted in major cities, having local currency is essential for smaller towns and market stops.
Pack Lots of Snacks. Keep plenty of snacks and drinks handy in the car, especially for the longer drives between Star Wars locations.
Bring Essential Supplies. Don't forget to carry toilet paper, wet wipes, and alcohol wipes. They will come in handy when using facilities on the road!
❌ Important Don'ts for Safety
Don't Travel After Sundown. We strongly advise against driving after dark. Many roads in the South lack lighting, which can make nighttime travel dangerous.
Don't Travel During Ramadan. If possible, avoid scheduling your trip during the month of Ramadan, as many restaurants and services outside the tourist centers may have limited or irregular hours during the day.
Alright, buckle up, Padawans! Now let's kick off this journey by detailing all the incredible locations we visited! I secured the landspeeder—er, I mean, the rental car—and ignited our road trip right from Tunis! To ensure a smooth hyperspace jump, I hired an amazing local guide to pilot us to all the sights, since my family doesn't speak Tunisian Arabic. Throughout this epic road trip, our sole dependence for bathroom breaks? The humble gas station!
Our tour guide: Sami +216 24 616 165 (whatsApp). We paid his daily rate and paid for his room.
Prepare for immersion! Our debut destination was the magnificent Hotel Sidi Idriss, and yes, we spent the night! Fair warning: these Tatooine rooms require a trek for the bathroom—no connected 'fresher' here! But the adventure was real: we celebrated Thanksgiving dinner right at Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru's actual dining table! It was an unforgettable moment, especially when the kids got to quench their thirst with refreshing blue milk!
Next up, we took a quick detour to the former Slave Quarters—the very home of Shmi Skywalker, Anakin's mother! We had to stop at Hotel Ksar Hadada; the architecture itself is truly out of this galaxy. We grabbed our datapad cameras for some lightning-fast photos of those legendary arched hallways, imagining Jawas or maybe even Anakin's younger self right there!
Transmission Intercepted! We learned that the owner was actually in the process of renovating the quarters for future hotel stays! When we visited, they had already completed one room. Talk about sleeping where a Sith Lord was born—that's dedication to the Dark Side... or just excellent hospitality!
After escaping the Slave Quarters, we made a crucial refueling stop! We landed our landspeeder in the legendary town of Tataouine—the very place that inspired the desert planet's name! For our midday sustenance, we found an amazing cantina called Dahar, where we enjoyed a well-deserved feast fit for a Jedi (or maybe even a Hutt)!
After a long day of navigating the treacherous dunes, we landed our starship for the night in
the oasis town of Douz! Our temporary base? The incredible Sahara Douz! Talk about a refuge—they welcomed us with a dinner buffet, a feast worthy of Mos Eisley's finest bantha meat (and probably much tastier)! Rest and recharge complete for the next leg of our journey!
Prepare yourselves! The next target coordinates are locked: we're making a direct jump to Mos Espa! Get ready to step right onto the bustling streets of Anakin's hometown—this is where the podracing action began!
After a massive day of exploring the Outer Rim, we needed a base worthy of royalty! We spent the night at The Mora Sahara Tozeur, perfectly positioning us for our final, ultimate pilgrimage! Our destination the next morning? The iconic Lars Homestead exterior at Chott el-Djerid! Get ready for that famous horizon photo—we're finally seeing the birthplace of a hero!
